Photography: The word photography is derived from two Greek words and means “writing with light”.
- “Photography, a flexible medium, has followed every twist and turn of market and ideological forces since it was developed in the 1840’s. “ (Jefferies, 1981:9).
From the earliest days of photography in the 1840’s the medium has been used to record events and news stories. Gradually becoming more popular so that from the 1870’s onwards it has become an important means of documenting society and the world.
Photographs have considerable power over human emotions and may transform us from one feeling to another.
